From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Racheal and the team worked tirelessly to provide the service we wanted.
Nothing was too much trouble and I knew my loved one was in good hands from the start.
I had some quite specific requests and each detail was listened to and double checked to ensure all was as requested.
Thank you to everyone involved in the planning and organisation, specifically Racheal but also Nick, Leanne and Jayne. You all helped me give my husband the send off we both wanted as well as providing me with comfort and support over the last few weeks.
We were very satisfied with the service we received and the overall care and attention to detail shown by Alisa and her team on the day.
Very professional and respectful service
From my initial contact with Sara through to the chapel visit of rest visit with Meygan and Sarah, the care we received was exceptional. They were professional, knowledgeable, dignified, and friendly throughout. Their compassion and support made a difficult time much easier, and I would highly recommend them.
Sara and team Alicia and Nick. Looked after me and the family with so much care and understanding. Made a devastating time so professional and caring. Your support has been absolutely wonderful. Thank you from my sad heart.
